What you get
The hard puzzle book is 19 puzzle pages, plus a lesson plan, an answer key and a Certificate of Completion. It is written for children ages 4 and up, but it is best for ages 8 and up, and for any child who has already finished easier puzzle books.
Inside: expert mazes, word searches, number patterns, sudoku-style grids, ciphers, a logic grid, a clue puzzle, letter math, a crossword and riddle sets.
Ciphers are the heart of it
A cipher looks like magic and behaves like arithmetic. A child shifts each letter to decode a message, writes the plain words down, and suddenly has a sentence that only they could read. That moment is worth the page count. It teaches patience better than any lecture about patience.
Sudoku-style pages without the pressure
These grids ask a child to notice what is already there before filling in what is missing. If a page stalls, cover most of the grid with a sheet of paper and work one row at a time. That single trick rescues more puzzle sessions than any hint.

When a child is stuck, name the type of thinking rather than the answer. "What have you already ruled out?" or "Read the clue again, slowly." Give one clue, then leave the table. Hovering turns a puzzle into a performance.
Where the answer key belongs
Keep the answer key for yourself. If a page is checked straight away, children learn to guess and peek. If it is checked at the end of the week, they learn to sit with a problem.
Print extras
Print two copies of the ciphers. Most children want a second run once they understand the trick, and a clean page is kinder than an erased one.
