The Travel Bag: What Actually Gets Used
The problem with a busy bag
A bag stuffed with activities becomes a bag nobody opens. Choice is tiring, and children in transit are already at their limit.
What earns a place
A clipboard with a few printed pages. Two pencils. One small puzzle. A roll of tape. Snacks. That is the whole list, and it covers most of a flight.
The clipboard matters
Loose paper slides, tears and gets lost. A cheap clipboard with a clip keeps the whole activity in one place and turns a tray table into a desk.
Tape is the wildcard
A roll of masking tape buys twenty minutes on a plane window, a train armrest or a paper cup. It is also silent, which is more than can be said for most toys.
Keep one thing for the way home
Pack a duplicate of the favourite activity and do not show it on the way out. New on the return leg is worth more than new at the start.
Let the screen be one option
Bring it, charged, and do not treat using it as a failure. Travel is not the moment to prove a point about screen time.
